About Lake Erie Tackle Box
Why This Site Exists
I started Lake Erie Tackle Box because I’ve spent more time on the water than I have on the couch. For 18 years, I’ve been running a charter boat out of Huron, Ohio, and I’ve also competed in walleye tournaments. I’ve fished every inch of Lake Erie — from the shallow bays to the deep, murky main basin. And through it all, I’ve seen firsthand how hard it is to find gear that actually works. You see, Lake Erie is a tough lake. The water’s cold, the fish are smart, and the weather can change in an instant. I’ve fished in ice, in rain, in the middle of a thunderstorm. I’ve used gear that broke, gear that failed, and gear that just didn’t cut it. That’s why I started this blog. I want to help other anglers avoid the same mistakes. I want to share what works, what doesn’t, and what I’ve tested myself in real conditions. Because if you’re out there fishing, you don’t need a bunch of fluff — you need real advice from someone who’s been there, done that, and caught fish with the right gear.About Mike Caruso
I’m Mike Caruso, and I’ve spent the last 18 years doing what I love — fishing Lake Erie. As a charter captain, I’ve had the privilege of taking hundreds of anglers out on the water, teaching them how to fish, and helping them catch fish. But I’m not just a guide — I’m also a competitive angler. I’ve competed in walleye tournaments, and I’ve learned what it takes to win. That means I understand the pressure, the strategy, and the gear that can make or break a day on the water. I’ve fished every type of Lake Erie water — from the Western Basin, where the walleye are thick, to the Central Basin, where the fishing can be slow and frustrating. I’ve tested rods, reels, life vests, and tackle in every condition you can imagine. I’ve had gear fail in the middle of a tournament. I’ve had gear save the day when I needed it most. That experience is what gives me the credibility to speak about what works and what doesn’t. I don’t just write reviews — I live them. And I know what it means to put your trust in the right gear. What We Cover

When I review gear, I don’t just take it out for a quick spin. I test it in real fishing conditions — in the rain, in the cold, and in the middle of a tournament. I spend hours, sometimes days, putting gear through its paces. I look at durability, performance, comfort, and value. I don’t just write about what I like — I write about what works in the real world. I also take time to evaluate how gear affects your fishing experience. Does it make it easier to cast? Does it hold up in rough conditions? Does it help you catch more fish? These are the questions I ask. And I’m completely transparent about my process. If a product fails, I’ll tell you. If it works, I’ll tell you. I don’t let affiliate relationships influence my scores — I only recommend gear that I’ve tested myself and believe in. Because if you’re out there fishing, you need honest advice from someone who knows what it takes to catch fish.Get In Touch
